About / Why I Become a Fashion Designer
After graduating high school I obtained a Bachelors in Communication Arts. I was inspired to become a news reporter, yet after a very intense internship out in the field I knew it was not for me. I then began working for a Real Estate Association as a membership coordinator. A short time after that I witnessed what would be the most life altering experience when my father tragically drowned. I continued to work for the Association and went through the motions of life with no feeling of self-satisfaction. I was unhappy with my job and knew there was something much more meaningful for me in life. I was in shock for many years after my father's death and was afraid to figure it out! One day I was watching Martha Stewart, as I love her show and her constant support of the Arts, and Tim Gunn was her special guest. He brought along three students from Parsons School for Fashion Design and I felt this positive feeling wash over my mind body and soul, I rushed to the phone and called Parsons! I owe all of this all to Martha Stewart and I would love to meet her and share my story. I have always loved shopping and have the closet to prove it, yet I knew nothing about Fashion Design. At Parsons, I found myself being laughed at by other students for my intricate questions yet I made it through and even shot to the top. I was recognized at Lord and Taylor in my last semester at an intense competition called "The Line Debut". I thought to myself, now who's laughing? Parsons gave me the tools, education and confidence to go after my dream! I graduated in May 2009 and started Elene Cassis Inc. June 11, 2009. I believe that if you just "Follow your Heart" you can't go wrong. I have always loved Black and White, and felt so powerful wearing it! I love classic pieces that transcend time and make a woman feel empowered.
